AI Empowers Breakthrough in Thermal Management Efficiency of Aircraft | Our College Wins Award in National 3D Printing Innovation Competition


Recently, the 3D Printing Innovation and Creativity Competition, hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and jointly organized by the Additive Manufacturing Technology Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and Beijing Institute of Technology, successfully concluded in Beijing. Focusing on the cross-border application and innovative potential of 3D printing technology, the competition attracted more than 400 teams from over 100 universities and key industrial enterprises across the country to compete. The entries covered a wide range of cutting-edge fields, including aerospace, intelligent manufacturing, and marine engineering. 

The participating team of our college consists of postgraduate students Zeng Mengxiang, Zhang Tongyong and Li Fan from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, under the guidance of Professors Chen Qiang and Fei Qingguo. Aiming at the challenges of insufficient performance and complex design of cold plates in aircraft thermal management systems, the team innovatively developed a new type of microchannel liquid-cooled cold plate. For the first time, artificial intelligence technology was introduced to assist the design, establishing a full-process technical system of "Flow Mechanism Analysis – AI Intelligent Design – 3D Printing Manufacturing – Extreme Environment Verification". The team eventually won the Third Prize in the competition. 


This award reflects our college's strength in intelligent manufacturing and interdisciplinary innovation, as well as the mission and responsibility of universities to promote scientific and technological research and achievement transformation in response to national strategic needs. In the future, our college will continue to focus on cutting-edge technologies, deepen collaborative innovation in mechanical design, advanced manufacturing and other fields, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the high-quality development of China's high-end manufacturing industry.
