The Ministry of Education of China has approved the Southeast University–Monash University International College (Suzhou), extending the two universities’ partnership to undergraduate education alongside their existing master’s and doctoral programmes.
The college plans to admit 300 undergraduates in 2026. Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, supported by our School, is one of its first three undergraduate programmes, with an initial intake of 100 students.
The programme follows a ‘2+2’ model: students spend their first two years at Southeast University in China, and their final two at Monash University in Australia. Drawing on both universities’ curricula and quality assurance systems, it combines study on two campuses with experience of two cultures.
The first two years provide a grounding in general education and mechanical engineering. Students take courses in foreign languages and political theory alongside computing and programming, an introduction to artificial intelligence, engineering mechanics and principles of mechanical design.
At Monash, students progress to core specialist courses, supporting electives and research training in an international setting. Subjects include numerical analysis and machine learning, intelligent manufacturing and digital twins, intelligent robotics, mechanics of materials and additive manufacturing.
The curriculum brings together mechanical engineering, automation, measurement and control, and artificial intelligence. University–industry collaboration and practical engineering experience will help students develop the ability to integrate and optimize systems for complex industrial applications.
The programme builds on a partnership established in 2012 and aims to prepare engineers for international careers in advanced equipment, intelligent production and green manufacturing.
