Prof. Peter D. Lund of our School, an International Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), attended the 2026 ZGC Forum in Beijing to discuss engineering innovation and the technologies needed for the energy transition.
At the Engineering Science and Technology Innovation Forum, hosted by the CAE, Prof. Lund took part in a panel on how engineering innovation can drive high-quality development. He said China’s sustained investment in research and innovation, strong talent base and ability to bring technologies into use had placed it among the world’s leading innovators. He also noted China’s commitment during its 15th Five-Year Plan period to strengthening the role of its international science and technology innovation centres as sources of original innovation. Following China’s technological progress and deepening cooperation with the country were important for nations around the world, he said.
Held with the approval of China’s State Council, the 2026 ZGC Forum Annual Conference was themed “Full Integration Between Technological and Industrial Innovation”. It was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the China Association for Science and Technology, and the Beijing Municipal Government.
